Good Music

I was listening to some Destiny’s Child in the bar the other day, and I was immediately transported back to high school. Those were critical years, for me personally and culturally. I’m so grateful that I came of age in a time when there was increasingly diverse representation in music, and when women were starting to write songs that represented their increased empowerment. Even songs that are not specifically about empowerment, but which are at least not about their relationship to a man and which were innovative and bold still to this day make me sit up a bit straighter and hold my head a bit higher. So, I decided to make a playlist of songs that transport me back to high school and which made me believe that it was okay to be myself and to want the best for myself, even if I was different and ambitious and weird and disabled and flirty and a smartass.
